Health and Human Services Finance Omnibus Bill moves to conference Committee

The House and Senate have each passed their Health and Human Services Omnibus bills. The good news is that both bills include a repeal of the 1.67% Continuing Care Provider cut that was scheduled to take effect from July 1, 2013 to January 1, 2014.

Each bill also includes a cost of living adjustment (COLA) for continuing care providers. Unfortunately, both proposals are below what we were hoping for and deserve in light of the last decade's trend of funding lagging significantly behind cost of living. The House bill includes a 2% COLA effective July 1, 2013. The Senate bill includes a 1% COLA on January 1, 2015 and an additional 1% on July 1, 2015.

Next critical steps:

  • House and Senate leaders and Gov. Dayton WILL AGREE ON NEW TARGETS for all areas of government, including health and human services.
  • Momentum is building at the capitol for a bigger COLA, but the health and human services target must be increased to increase the COLA – a direct result of you telling your stories to your legislators.

What you can do:

The best way to build the health and human services target is to talk or write your legislators and Gov. Dayton about why a COLA is essential for quality care and caregivers

See our Legislative Page for additional resources and talking points you can use when contacting your legislators and the governor.

Partnership Resources, Inc. received grant funding through the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council’s Arts Activities Support program for our “Clay Works 3D” project. This project has given approximately 48 PRI artists the opportunity to participate in 10 week clay classes at long-time community partner, Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis.

Artists received professional art instruction and learned techniques for creating art with clay as their medium creating sculptures and other art works of their design.

On Thursday, May 9 artists will exhibit their works at PRI’s senior site, located at 4200 Park Glen Rd, in St. Louis Park from 4 – 6PM. Light refreshments will be served and many pottery works will be available for sale. For more information call 952-925-1404.

We hope you will join us for the chance to speak with some of the artists who participated in this project about their experience and perhaps decide to purchase a wonderful work of art to take home!
